Introduction
This guide explains how to utilize Beehive Pro plugin to enable Google Analytics 4 monitoring on your blog. (Please note, that the older Google Universal Analytics is no longer supported).
Before initialization, make sure to read Googles guide on best practices to avoid sending Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Also note, that the data collection works only if the user has consented to the “Statistics cookies” – group from the cookie banner/cookie consent page on the platform. You can read more about handling of personal data and cookies on the blogging platform here.
Step 1: Create Google Analytics Account.
-
- Go to analytics.google.com and create an account (or log in to an existing account).
- Click Start Measuring
(In case the “Start Measuring” – option is not showing, it likely means that you already have a Google Analytics-account created. In this case, please navigate to the Admin-panel on the Google Analytics dashboard by clicking the gear icon on the bottom left of the dashboard. When you are in the Admin-panel, from top left click Create and Property (or Account, if you prefer/require it over a Property. You can read more about GA4 hierarchy through this link).
You can now continue this guide from step 4. (or 3. in the case of new Account) - Name your account, select your data sharing preferences and click Next
- Name your property, choose Time Zone and Currency information and click Next
- Describe your business details and click Next. On the next page choose your Business objectives and click Create.
- Read the Google Analytics Terms of Service Agreement and if you agree to the terms, click I Accept.
- If you accepted, the property has now been created and you should see a Start collecting data – page. From the Choose a platform – options, choose Web.
- Fill in your blogs Website URL (/yourblog/) and name your stream. Please take extra care to fill in the correct address – tracking won’t work if its not. Click Create and continue when you are done.
- You should now see your newly created data stream listed under Data streams. Click on top of the stream you’ve just created.
- Finally, copy the Measurement ID information displayed, you will need this later.
Step 2: Connect the Beehive Pro plugin with your Google account.
-
- Go to /yourblog/wp-admin/ and log in to your blog dashboard.
- Navigate to Beehive Pro -> Accounts and click Connect with Google.
- Insert your Google account information and when prompted to Sign in to Beehive Analytics, click Continue.
- Next you should see a page Beehive Analytics wants access to your Google Account. In this page click the box See and download your Google Analytics data, if you want to access the analytics information also from the blog dashboard. Lastly, click Continue.
- Now you should see a confirmation screen You are being redirected to blogs.helsinki.fi. Press Continue, if you want to finalize the integration between the services.
You are then taken back to your blog, where you should see your Google Account now linked to Beehive Pro.
Step 3: Connect your Analytics 4 Profile to Beehive Pro
-
- Open your blogs.helsinki.fi dashboard and navigate to Beehive Pro -> Google Analytics -> Account.
- From the Analytics 4 Profile dropdown menu, select your previously created stream profile, which should be now available.
- In the Measurement ID field, paste the Measurement ID from Step 1 (point 10).
- Lastly click Save Changes from the bottom right and your integration should be completed.
You should now be able to view your page analytics either from Beehive Pro on the blog dashboard, or from accounts.google.com via a web browser.
That’s it, you’re done!
